I am an Army wife, and had to fly my lab from Utah to North Carolina. Make sure that you speak directly with the airlines being the prices change drastically. Also, there are certain times of the year they can fly cargo, as well as certain breeds. They recommend that they have no more then one layover, and have to have a certificate from a vet to fly as well as approved cages, bedding, food, etc. Vets used to recommend sedation, but now don't suggest it because of the affects of altitude. Being a small breed, most airlines will allow you to fly with your pet, under your seat for a small charge. Mine however, was close to $700 with the cage included because she is so large. Do your research, there are many airlines that have bad reputations with transporting animals. Mine though was fine, although a little traumatized! Good luck!
