[QUOTE="SavethePitst, post: 1718426, member: 505391"] I've got three dogs, an English Mastiff, an American Staffy/English Mastiff X and an American Staffy (none related just to clarify- I'm not a BYB) and I've been a responsible owner. Since I've had them their vaccinations have been up to date including Lyme, they're all spayed/neutered, I've had them microchipped, they're licensed, tested for heartworm/lyme annually, and are flea/tick/heartworm protected from February-November. I live in Maine so I do not see the need to give them those chemicals through the coldest months. I feed them all the best food and do a lot of research to try to give them the best care I can. Lately I've been thinking- is frontline/vectra/revolution really necessary? Do I really want my dogs to have a chemical in their body that causes fleas to be killed by biting their skin and that can kill cats?? Do I want them to have on their skin something the directions tell me to rinse with water immediately and call poison control if I get it on MY skin??? My thought is no... My dogs are all inside dogs and, again, are all Lyme vaccinated. I think heartworm preventative is very important as heartworm can kill but should I really be all that worried about my dogs getting fleas? If it happens I can always throw on a dose to kill them instead of keeping those chemicals in their system all the time. Has anyone done any research on this or have any good articles? I would love to see them and be pointed in the correct location. Also to clarify, I am NOT trying to save money. I would buy the moon if it would keep my pups happy and healthy, I just want to know that what I'm doing is going to keep them around for the longest time possible. Thank you in advance for the info!
