Question about using truck brokers for moving from CA to OR- How does it work?

My boyfriend and I will be moving from Palm Desert, CA to around Portland, OR by the end of August (our current lease is up on Sept 1st) and was told about truck brokerages as a cheaper alternative to moving companies. I was wondering how exactly that works and how I would go about finding someone who would be going our way, etc. If anyone has extra information or is an interested truck broker, please contact me me at samlpagan [AT] gmail.com
