I have had 5 hours of driving lessons in a manual transmission car. I have got the basics of changing gear and I am slowly getting to grips with down gearing when approaching junctions and roundabouts etc, but I am finding it difficult to concentrate on anything else other than how to go about down gearing when approaching junctions/roundabouts, so can not properly check my mirrors and signal correctly, and also find it difficult to stop before the line at a junction due to getting flustered. I know it is early on, but because of needing a driving license for the type of jobs I am applying for, I need to pass quickly. I feel that not having to worry about the clutch and gears will help me concentrate on other aspects of driving such as anticipation and planning, and my steering is not too bad so would not be stuck with having the same problems no matter what type of car, on this aspect anyway. The question really is whether people who learn to drive in an automatic pass their test in a shorter amount of time and if it does make driving easier? I am also aware that if you take your test in an automatic then you are restricted to driving an automatic, and this does not bother me, I can not see this as being a problem to me personally....my idea is that I will pass in an automatic and then if I want to a few years down the line, then learn and take the test in a manual. Any advice would be appreciated!! Thanks
