My rabbits are set up in separate cages with a section where they can go inside a little house for shelter or go through a hole to a cage for open fresh air... For the most part they are smart enough to poop outside so it falls through the cage onto the ground, but sometimes they do their business inside the house which often causes a terrible mess (especially mixed with urine). Once every two months I'll have to clean the houses out and put in fresh hay.. However recently one rabbit has decided to use his house LITERALLY as an outhouse and goes back there every time she has to do it... I've wondered this for a while, so I figured now would be as good a time as any to ask this question. Is there any way you can teach rabbits to "NOT" go bathroom in their house? Spread vinegar? or perhaps some other method of deterrent. With winter coming on it would be nice to not have to worry about this as the snow makes it virtually impossible to get inside the house section. Thanks for advice
I just wanted to add sp there is no confusion. The rabbits are not INDOOR rabbits. When I say "house" I mean the house we built for them outside. Each one has an insulated plywood box with a flip top so we can check on them and clean up. Each rabbit has about 3 or 4 square feet of space. I want to teach them to NOT use the bathroom in there.
