He has high hopes for the wrestlers.
"We've got some returning medalists from the world champions. We have a freestyle heavyweight who looks promising, we have a returning champion in Jordan Burroughs. We have a returning medalist in Byers in Greco. We definitely have some strong contenders. That's the thing about wrestling -- sometimes it comes down to the draw. Who you get first, who you get when in the tournament, and it's always interesting to see how things shake out."
After years of spending most his time on MMA, Couture has reconnected with his wrestling roots.
"I retired from the sport in 2000 and never really looked back. Just this year, I had a chance to watch the NCAAs, did a fundraiser for the Olympic freestyle team, so I've gotten a little more plugged into wrestling, so it's been nice. It's nice to see some old faces and get back into the groove of it."
In addition to watching wrestling, Couture plans on tuning in for some of his other favorite sports.
"I love to watch the Olympics. Every time you watch somebody take that podium and you hear our national anthem, it always pulls at my heart strings. I'm excited to see what happens with track and field. I happen to like volleyball, both indoor and the beach game. I'll try to catch some of those matches. Soccer's always fun to watch. It's been one of my favorite since I was five years old."
Though his current schedule includes promoting "The Expendables 2" and "Hijacked," plus commentating for the UFC on Fox, he plans to sneak in as much Olympics time as he can.
"That's the nice thing about the Olympics. It doesn't matter what country you're in or where you're at, there's going to be coverage."
