Being American, I'm not that conversant about soccer, although I've learned quite a bit since the English Premier League is now televised quite a bit here in the States, and we occassionally also get to watch some UEFA games.

Now, I understand that the "big" leagues of professional soccer include the EPL, Italian Serie A, Spanish La Liga, and the Bundesliga of Germany. Perhaps the French first division and the Dutch Eredivisie to a lesser extent. But how do the professional leagues of other European and South American nations stack up in terms of prestige, quality of teams and overall pool of talent?
deanpurple - a lot of Real Madrid's success came from the fact that Franco basically cherry-picked the best players and made them go to Real. He wanted Real to represent Spain strongly in European competition. Salazar did much the same with Benfica in Portugal.
Okay - can you guys rank the First divisions of these various countries that field professional soccer leagues?

England
Scotland
France
Italy
Spain
Portugal
Greece
Poland
Netherlands
Belgium
Russia
Turkey
Romania
Japan
South Korea
Mexico
Brazil
Uruguay
Argentina
United States
China (do they even have a pro league?)
Other countries I forgot.

Spain

Turkey
US
Uruguay
And i really dont know where to rank the other countries since i know nothing about. I ranked this based on where thy are in the Champions Leagues, International team ranking, where the best players are at (bviously Spain right now) etc. Hopes this answers your question.

The biggest two are the Premier League and Serie A. Spain isn't what it thinks it is and the history of that league proves it. Only 9 teams have been Spanish champions, whereas 23 have been English champions and 16 have been Italian champions. Real Madrid have won the Spanish title 31 times and that proves if you can win so many league titles that there is not and never has been very much competition.

In america the best legues are in brazil, mexico and Argentina. and other european leagues that have competetive teams are Portugal, Russia, Scotland and other countries however the best league is the EPL with many competetive teams like Man U, Man C, Chelsea, Arsenal, liverpool, Aston villa, Tottenham, Everton while the spanish league is Barca, Real madrid or Real madrdid barca, also the italian legue its not what it use to be most of its stars are now old and worn out
