Being American, I'm not that conversant about soccer, although I've learned quite a bit since the English Premier League is now televised quite a bit here in the States, and we occassionally also get to watch some UEFA games.
Now, I understand that the "big" leagues of professional soccer include the EPL, Italian Serie A, Spanish La Liga, and the Bundesliga of Germany. Perhaps the French first division and the Dutch Eredivisie to a lesser extent. But how do the professional leagues of other European and South American nations stack up in terms of prestige, quality of teams and overall pool of talent?
deanpurple - a lot of Real Madrid's success came from the fact that Franco basically cherry-picked the best players and made them go to Real. He wanted Real to represent Spain strongly in European competition. Salazar did much the same with Benfica in Portugal.
Okay - can you guys rank the First divisions of these various countries that field professional soccer leagues?
England
Scotland
France
Italy
Spain
Portugal
Greece
Poland
Netherlands
Belgium
Russia
Turkey
Romania
Japan
South Korea
Mexico
Brazil
Uruguay
Argentina
United States
China (do they even have a pro league?)
Other countries I forgot.
