I had 4 female rats for over 6mths not one has ever had a sore or been hurt, they are in a 5ft by 2 1/2 ft cage for levels hide outs 3 water bottles 2 safe large wheels. Well I adopted a Siamese female and a hairless from someone they are a little over a yr old and she said they don't fight. I did notice some scars on the hairless.
Well a week later and Ive got one rat with a large inch and half cut behind and down her front arm missing hair in little patches and the hairless has lots of bloody scratches on her face. I also noticed the new Siamese did lunge at my cat trying to scratch her face but not does not do this she does test her boundaries trying to nibble ruff. Well I do enjoy the new Siamese as far as handling much better so I found a new home for the hurt rat who is dominant and my other very dominant rat plus one sub and keep the 2 new ones and the most submissive one i had. So now i have 3 I was hoping things would calm down.
Well now the hairless has a little cut on her tail and has dried blood around her eyes and it seems its coming from her eyes I clean her up. Any idea"s? I'm thinking its the new white rat being mean and If she keeps it up I may split the cage and put her alone see if anyone gets hurt then.
I'm just confuse I didn't see anyone do anything but I also don't see how the large cut could have happen and i know the scratches on the hairless was from rat nails. I'm also wondering about blood coming from the hairless rats eyes I also know this could be from being sick she has no other signs. Am I missing something as a 1st yr owner I cant mention everything I know here but i feed Harlen blocks plus veggies eggs liver seeds i feed every day. Its a large cage diff hide outs on diff levels wheels are on diff ends they don't have anything to fight over other than who's who and now its only the 3.
One if very scared the hairless the other very submissive and then the white one shes the bully. She's not always mean she cleans them and all but other times I've seem her using her weight to push them up against the cage. I don't want them being hurt that why I re home half of them hoping to reduce number and stress what should I try here?
