I just switched carriers to AT&T so I could have the iPhone and now have to switch my family's phones over as well. We were on Verizon and so I know next to nothing about what phones work on what GSM frequencies.
My 11-yo daughter wants a pink RAZR and I'd like to get her the best one possible within reason, but I've been getting conflicting info on what will work. I called AT&T and the gal I talked to said to try to get a phone that has as many bands as possible and as long as it is designed for AT&T or is unlocked and has at least one of these frequencies: 850 900 1800 1900 2100 the phone will work. (Didn't say how well though...)
BUT... geek forums I've found online say this is inaccurate and that if your phone does not have 850 and 1900, then it will not work on AT&T. But they don't say why.
These are the RAZRs I am considering: v3i, v3x, v3xx
The v3x seems to have the best features, but is the one I'm most worried about working well on ATT as it is GSM 900/1800/1900.
The v3xx is GSM 850/1800/1900 and advertised as an ATT phone, but the features and reviews aren't quite as good. It looks like it would be a better phone than the v3i though, but the v3i IS a Quadband. Should that be a more important/overriding consideration?
My daughter wants to be able to connect the phone to her iTunes and my understanding is that this is possible with all 3 phones, but I'm not sure. She also likes to take phone photos and videos... the v3xx looks to have the most memory, but the v3x looks like it's the only one with flash. She doesn't text much and is not allowed to have internet access yet. She doesn't need the phone to work outside of the U.S.
Remember when you give me your opinions that this phone is for an 11-yo girl who likes the way the pink RAZR looks. So please don't suggest another phone unless it looks equally stylish, because this "feature" is just as important to her as its functions!
So basically my question is... will the v3x work well on AT&T or should I get the v3xx or the v3i. And WHY?! Or would you recommend something even different that is in the same price range. And WHY?!
Thanks.
