replacing exterior dryer vent?

i just moved into a new house and the dryer vent on the outside of my house is ancient and falling apart (probably from the 50s or 60s). Its a metal vent with a long metal pipe that goes into my house (one piece) and is screwed to an elbow and another piece which is all contained inside a drywalled wall (so no way for me to unscrew it). The vent on the outside is falling apart, so I need to replace it, but I cant get it off because its screwed to another pipe way inside the wall. My question is, could I just hacksaw it off, and jam the new plastic vent on the end of the pipe?

If the new pipe is tight you should be ok, Is there any way to get something in side the pipe to clean it out just for the peace of mind if nothing else Good Luck
