Reverse lights on a 98 Saturn Sc2?

Im thinking about getting a 98 Saturn Sc2 but i dont like the big rear tailight. If i were to paint over the trunk to cover up the light would that cover the reverse lights?

the rearlight is at :13 and 1:20
