Hi, guys i recently applied as was hired for the bell ringer position at salvation army. I'm 18 years old and never had a real job lasting over a month (bell ringer job is a month and a half). Well the thing is i've never been able to give my family a Christmas (i have a girlfriend of 2 years and a 1 and a half year old son) and i started out extremely excited for this job due to it being 40 hours a week plus overtime! Well i start in 2 days and I'm kinda nervous now... I leave at 9:30 am and work until 8:00pm (never worked that long) and our instructor told us that we can't sit down, have headphones,no cell phones, etc. Now i don't wanna sound whiny, but standing in the same spot for that long (excluding breaks which is 2 hours total for the whole day) with no entertainment whatsoever sounds in humane =/. Anyways my question here is for people that have worked as a bell ringer. How was it? How did you pass the time? It seems like the day would just drag on forever when your doing nothing but ringing a bell. Any info would be appreciated, thanks-

You are not mature enough for a real full time job.
Do you honestly think if you were a cashier in a store, you would be allowed to wear headphones or being using your cell phone while on duty?
I think you need to grow up a little.
The bell ringer job is dull but people usually do it in the Christmas spirit, happy to be contributing something to the public festivities
