Samsung Flight. mp3s don't work for ringtones?

I've attempted to use mp3 clips for ringtones on my Samsung Flight, I read they have to be less than 300kb, so I did that, even some as small as 77kb but the phone still only allows me to set them as alarm tones. What am i doing wrong?
