When a satellite is launched from cape canaveral in florida, which is not on the equator, it goes into an orbit as shown in the figure to the left. This orbit alternately north and south crosses the equator approximately in the form of a sinusoid. Suppose that 10 minutes after it is launched, it reaches its fartest distance north of the equator and half a cycle later it reaches its farthest distance south.
1. Sketch a complete cycle of the sinusodial function letting y be the number of kilometers away from the equator and the x-axis the number of minutes elapsed.
2. Determine from the information given and your graph what the Nodal Line, Amplitude, lenght of period, & phase shift are.
3. Predict what the distance from the equator is when; t= 25, t=41, t=163.
4. What is the smallest value of time (t) at which the satellite is 1600km south of the equator ?
5. Calulate the distanc from the equator to Cape Canaveral by calculating y when t = 0.
BONUS: find the distance Cape Canaveral really is from the eqatoor and explain whether you have an accurate model or not.
