Scooters rev into spring - tests and video
[SIZE=-1] The days are getting longer, and Groundhog Day has come and gone. But try to hold back your tears, because Punxsutawney Phil claims there are a few more weeks of winter yet. So, even if it may not feel like it in your neighborhood, spring is coming. OK, so it may not be right around the corner, but it?s not far up the next block. And as the saying goes, it is always spring somewhere. Or summer?like in Australia right now, mate.
Here at Consumer Reports, in the icy Northeast, we?re dreaming of warm weather and as always, thinking of ways to have fun and save you money. That?s why we?ve just published our first test of motor scooters and motorcycles since 1981.
Two-wheelers may not be for everybody, and they do come with greater safety risks than passenger cars. But with prices for new models starting at around $1,000 and fuel mileage that can be as good as 100 mpg at a steady cruise, they can be a compelling alternative for some of us, at least some of the time ? especially when money is tight. And if you are considering getting into riding, we strongly encourage you to get some training ? even for scooters. Several CR staff members completed a basic riding course from the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF), and we highly recommend it.
As a bonus, they get you out in the air and sunshine. Think spring!*
