I want to share files/stream videos between my xbox360 and my computer using a switch?
Hi, i want to share files/stream videos between my xbox360 and my computer, i have 12mbit cable internet connection, and i have 2 ips available from my isp. my settings are like this:

modem -> switch -> computer1/xbox360

using that setting i managed to have both get its own ip from the modem and connect with no problems to the internet, however i cant share files between them.

i've managed share files once, dont ask me how, i plugged it in rebooted the modem and it worked, both had internet and i could stream my videos/mp3s.

Then i turned my xbox off went to sleep, and when i woke up, i turned on the xbox again but i couldnt stream anymore, even though the pc was never turned off at any time and the internet was still working.

I tried using a router i found, a really old router from linksys (befs41), and after some searching i managed to set all the have everything working, the network (streaming to xbox) was working great, but with one detail, my internet speed wasnt maxing out at all, instead of my usual 1.2mb/s i was getting 750k/s at most when downloading! so i was told my router is 10mbit only and cant handle my internet at its max capacity.

so want to find out how to do it using just the switch, or both, maybe i can have it share files thru the router and have the switch for the internet , since its alot faster? do i have to buy a newer router or can i set something up?

please help thanks

Theoretically, you should be able to communicate using the switch. However, the way your connection to the modem is configured may hinder this.

Ideally, you want a router, if you don't want wireless then a decent 100Mbit router is very cheap these days. just be careful as to whether you need an ADSL of cable router.
