Sherlock Holmes magnifying lense...?

What did he call the magnifying lense? certainly not "Magnifying lense"

"whipped out his lens" or "he whipped a tape measure and a large round magnifying glass from his pocket" - those are phrases from my book. For some reason I remembered them, maybe 'cause Watson described Sherlock running about investigating like a bloodhound.
