My voice teacher's private studio is holding our yearly showcase concert next February/March, and we are very keen to try presenting a scene from an opera (but without full-scale staging and costuming, of course). Most of the items are probably going to be either solos or duets, but we also want to form a slightly bigger ensemble (e.g. trio, quartet, quintet) - hence the thought of an opera scene. Do you know of any short but funny operatic ensemble scenes that might be suitable, which aren't too crazy to stage? (by that, I mean needing lots of props or costumes, or a full chorus) We have all voice parts except contraltos. I thought of the finale from Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro, with the Countess, Susanna, Cherubino, Figaro and Count during the 'mistaken identity crisis', but it may be a bit too long. I'm sure it will be very entertaining if we can pull it off though. Any other ideas? It's next year in March, so we do have some time to put it together, as long as the forces required are within our capability. Thanks!
