Should I add a Blu-ray reader/writer drive to my laptop? Or should I just content...

...with a Blu-ray reader drive? I am considering buying a laptop and including a Blu-ray drive in it.

By paying $150, I can add a Blu-ray reader, and by paying an additional $150 (so $300 in total), I can add a Blu-ray reader/writer drive.

I am trying to figure out whether adding a Blu-ray burner to my laptop will be a sensible and future-proof investment or just a waste of money.

I already have a 1TB external drive so I will not use a Blu-ray burner for storage purposes.

My question is, for what other purposes can I make use of a Blu-ray burner? The ones I can think of are below. I will appreciate your comments for each:

1) Copying a movie: Can I make a copy of a Blu-ray title, say Planet Earth, and give the disc to my brother to play on his Blu-ray drive? I assume it would not be possible, but there must be an other way around, such as some programs et cetera.

2) Copying a PS3 game: I know that PS3 is copy guarded, but it is no secret that there are some people out there trying to counter this. If and when someday they are successful, in case I find a pirate PS3 video game, would I be able to copy it and give that Blu-ray disc to a friend for him to play the game on his Blu-ray player?

I would like to hear your opinions about the above-mentioned specific uses of and any other current uses of a Blu-ray reader/writer drive that I did not include, as well as possible/potential/future uses that you may think of.

Please do not say “go for it, it will be future-proof investment” or “don’t waste your money”, but give some reasons by taking into account the above usages of a Blu-ray burner in particular.

Thanks!

PS. I am aware what I indicate above are not legal. So please do not dwell on that part.
