Should I go to the doctor or is it just the flu?

I have a pretty bad cough that sounds like its coming from my chest. Ive been hot and achy, but when I take my temperature it comes up as 96? I'm not really sure what that means. I also have headahces. I dont know if this is just the flu or if I should be on some type of medicine?
