Should I sell my car?

I'm thinking of joining the Air Force but I worried about paying for a car I can't use. Are you allowed to have a car in Tech school? If not, can you take it to your duty station?

If you already have a car then there is no reason to sell it. You can just leave it at home while you are going through school and when you get the privilege to drive again you can get it from home later. If you are paying for it with a loan you might be able to use the Servicemember's Civil Relief Act to get your interest rate reduced to 6% after you join since it applies to loans started prior to military service (assuming you are paying more than 6% right now).

You can't have in Basic, some tech schools allow for it... You can have a car at your duty station.

Look at it this way, for the two months you won't be driving it, you also won't be putting millage and wear & tear on the car. Plus you'll be getting money (so you can make your car payments with your pay).

I know in the army it all depends on how long your AIT is (tech for AF). I know without a doubt you will be able to take it to your duty station, unless its Korea. If its almost paid for I would keep it.

you can't use it in basic, and once you get to tech school, there are phases you have to go through before you are even allowed off post. I would wait to buy a new one until you get to an active duty station. if you already have one, I'd look into storage costs, that the air force should reimburse you for. when you finally get to your permanent duty station you will be allowed to have your household items moved from your Home of Record, and that includes a vehicle.
