Should I throw moth balls down the vent/duct system for rats?

I have had a bad problem with rats. Now, I hear noises near the vents. Should I hire a pest man to look down the vents with a camera/mirror to see if there is rat/mice debris? or, put a string on a trap filled with peanut butter, open the vent and lower it down to the duct? Or, just throw some moth balls or d-con rat bait down there? I've dealt with this horrible problem-spent thousands in damage from the rats and, now I hear the noises near the vents. 2 months ago, the pest men caught two rats-nothing since. What should I do, please? I've called duct/vent companies-they aren't too keen on coming out and finding rats in the ducts. Is there any other reason I might hear noises near the vents? I don't think they are in the walls.

First you need to find out where they are getting in! Then plug off the holes. Then you can have them cleaned, and put out what ever you want. If a rat dies in one of the vents, its going to stink like hell throughout the whole house! Plug off the holes first!

Won't hurt anything, but will make your house stink.I would go with the trap idea as if you get one you can get it out at least.
