I'm going to purchase a new desktop and the specs include a blu-ray drive. I have the option to upgrade the drive to not only play blu-ray dvds, but burn them too. With the news of Blu-ray winning the format war with HD-DVD, do you think it's a good idea to upgrade the drive to burn capabilities or just leave the option alone? Without the upgrade, I will be able to burn standard dvds, just not blu-ray. It looks like standard dvds and blu-rays will be sold in stores. How long do you think standard dvds will eventually be phased out in favor of blu-rays or even a new technology? If the standard dvd is going to be around for a few years to come, then I see no need to add the blu-ray burner because I plan to keep my new computer for at least 5 years or probably more. I just don't want to be stuck with a drive that can only burn standard, if the standard dvd format will be obsolete in a few years.
