I recently got a small Shubunkin, in a 10 gallon tank. I plan to upgrade before too long, but am now starting to worry that there's something wrong with my fish.

I cycled the tank and conditioned the water before moving her in.

However, the whole time she's been in there (coming on 3 days now), she has been very, very frantic. She races around the tank at full speed, zig zags back and forth, and just acts very distraught. I've caught her chasing air bubbles, and also swimming back and forth through the bubbles coming out of the air stone.

I also noticed that her right side gills were red. This concerned me, and so I tried to find an answer for it. The only two answers I found were ammonia poisoning and oxygen deficiency. I've been very careful to keep the water clean. It's not ammonia. So I thought it could be oxygen, seeing as she's obsessed with the air stone.

She has an external filter that is constantly putting water back into the tank via waterfall, and I was told that this would be good for air circulation in the water. I have an air pump hooked up to an air stone as well, adding more bubbles and current into the water.

Is this not enough? I was thinking of perhaps switching the Air Stone out for an Air Curtain / Manifold, but I'm not sure if this would be better or worse. Is she getting too much oxygen? Too little? Is there something else I should be adding for her, or does anyone know if this could be caused by something else?

Over the past 2 days, the redness on her right gills has spread to the top of her head, and also faintly to the left gills.

Any help at all would be appreciated.
