Well, as a fellow christian, can you blame them for their hatred? What kind of joy and peace do they have in their lives? Of course they are bitter, they have nothing to look forward to, no hope. Pretty sad, but that's their choice. God can't be DISPROVEN, and they know that, but refuse to accept it.

trend towards Atheist? I have never really cared but seeing all the hatred dished out by some(and i put stress on the SOME) has spurred a deep resentment to them, i like many level headed one's since its nice to talk to some people who like science and knowledge! I still do not have a full blown hatred towards them and i still like many and will not have my views changed on them? i would like others opinion and expiriences on this. I am no Zealot and i like to consider myself open, like the fact i do not like zealotous Theist

P.S i am a Christian :/ and please no mean comments i would like to avert from the trend and be level headed again. PLEASE give me reason not to go that way or i would become a hypocrite
@all i am really happy by how we have kept this question level headed and not a playground for meanies, wish the world was more open like this :)

There are trolls from both camps and you should try not to be baited by either. I am an Atheist and I feel that everyone has the right to believe whatever they like. I just feel that children should be allowed to make their own minds up about what they want to believe. Trying to explain the different theological stances to my daughter is hard work. I have taught her to ask questions and now I am reaping what I have sown with her constant questions. When her Gerbil died, the questions went to theology and I did my best to give as broad spectrum answers as possible (Although I did not have the heart to tell her that most people do not believe in a Gerbil heaven.)

The point I am trying to make is that not all Atheists are trying to disprove God or inflict their views on others. They just want their children to grow up in a world where they can believe what they like without fear of reprisals. I think that many Theists would want the same thing. The problems occur when Theists try to push their religious views into government, schools and law. Atheists get upset because they cannot see why their lives should be dictated based on another person's theological views.

I have had a few abusive emails from so-called-Christians. It's always fun to get an email explaining how you will burn for eternity in Hell. I have never sent an abusive email back. The most I've done is replied that if they do not like my views then to report me and I will appeal. I also told one to give up because it is impossible to offend me.

I enjoy intelligent debate and I don't think I am the only one in the Atheist camp with this view.

you shouldn't have a hatred for anybody, recognizing that at one time or another we have all been antagonistic to some degree or another..science is not at enmity with religion..it is a method of discovery and understanding..science offers as much opportunity to religion as it does to the atheist in not believing...level headiness..i like to think ..has really benefited me

Y/A can do this to you sometimes. Maybe you should take a break from it.

SOme of the Atheists on Y/A are just trolling and trying to stir up emotions.

Well, personally I find SOME Christians/religious people unbelievably patronizing. It makes me really angry. I very often encounter people who feel the need to tell me that Jesus will find me too( I was raised in the Jewish faith) or that they feel very sorry for me as I will go to hell etc.

They feel it's perfectly fine to patronize and belittle my stand on things, whereas when I say to them there is no God and give my reasons for this I get accused of being insulting.

I think religion is very much a matter of pride and feeling the need to defend ones faith or deity and the fact that it is very much a matter of belief. Then when you try to bring a reasoned argument as an atheist people will feel become defensive.

i agree. ever heard of madeline ohair? she started the american athiest organization...and she got murdered. she deserved it

It hasn't been a 'gradual dislike' trend. It's been an outright hatred. Between Christians and atheists, I'm not sure who hates the other more!

Christians too ... Its kinda like a "Christans Vs. Athiest" going on in Yahoo. You see them always bashing eachother. Athiest are always quick to say "Gods fake" or "Their is no God" &* then Christians will say something like "Your going to hell" "U need Jesus" .... Both seem to go out of there way to start stuff. Just ignore them thats all I can tell you. What goes on in Yahoo Answers doesn't exactly goes on in the real world ...

Of course not all ....

I've seen a lot of dislike towards theists. Atheists are usually praised for their beliefs. At least from what I've seen.

You can hate me, I don't really care. =)

I don't hate you tho.
