Soccer referee's word stands?

I want to hear from a pro. Umpire baseball game, perfect game until the referee makes wrong decision? referee's word stands in baseball games so perfect game was not accomplished. But heard that soccer, referee's words could change. FIFA organization started to use many referees out of field after 1986's maradona left hand incident. This way that even though the main referee makes wrong decision, other referees can come up with different decisions that overcome the former one before anything has been done.
My question is this, does the word of the referee stand?
