sony ericsson vivaz headphone not recognized?

I have a sony ericsson vivaz and when I connect the headset nothing happens, it keeps playing the music on the phone.. What am I doing wrong?
Actually, when I connect the headset it asks me if it is a tv put or headset and chose headset.
