San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich decided to sit Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili and Danny Green against the Miami Heat on Thursday night. That, however, didn’t sit well with David Stern.

And now we know just how much it irked him.

Stern has fined the Spurs a whopping $250,000 for Popovich not playing his best players.

“The result here is dictated by the totality of the facts in this case,” said David Stern in a statement. “The Spurs decided to make four of their top players unavailable for an early-season game that was the team’s only regular-season visit to Miami. The team also did this without informing the Heat, the media, or the league office in a timely way. Under these circumstances, I have concluded that the Spurs did a disservice to the league and our fans.”

From now on it is apparently required for team’s to inform Stern directly regarding their coaching moves.
