Startup on HP Computer?

I have a HP Laptop and when it starts up it asks for a main password (which I know). And it takes me to a orange, black, purple screen. It shows a symbol of a man which says root and a "other" button. When I click on root it asks for a password. But when I click on other it wants me to type in a username and password. How do I find out the user and pass? And what OS is this?
