stolen snowmobile in my backyard?

My nephew asked if we could keep the snowmobile he bought in our backyard. He has a title for it but the serial number has been scratched off on some of the pieces. I'm not sure if it is legit. If it is stolen (or parts have been stolen) could I be in trouble legally? I live in Minnesota.

Call the police non-emergency number and tell them what you told us. They will come check out the snowmobile. If it turns out to be stolen, your cooperation will avoid any serious trouble on your part. If not, you won't get in trouble for inquiring.

of course your in possession of stolen property. get it out of your yard like last week hun! Besides they can charge you with theft cuz you cant prove he did it its on your property.
