sudden bittorrent problems?

I've been using Bittorrent for some time now, without any real problems until now. Suddenly, just out of the blue, NO torrents that I'm trying to open through Bittorrent will do ANYTHING. When I cue a torrent file into the Bittorrent engine it will show the seeds and peers that are currently available for that torrent, but everything else is just.. dead. No upload activity. No download activity. when I left click on the torrent activity band (hope you know what I'm referring to) it's just a red band of inactivity.
Also I've been trying this on extremely popular heavily seeded files. The kind of stuff I could easily download before. NOTHING will open. Does anyone have any suggestions. Also, please understand that I'm not exactly what you would call a "techie" so, keepin it simple would be appreciated. Thanks, Dave

I would suggest you check your firewall. If you recently turned it on when it was off, it is probably blocking ports. This is the most common cause of bit torrent problems, and it means that you need to either stop using a firewall (not recommended) or forward the correct ports.
