Survey - Why is it SOME on P&S get upset when I thumbs down for spelling ?

I've seen the screams, crying, ranting... sorry, but I'm a retired teacher and can't abide people who display their ignorance.
 
Awful spelling is indeed a hard thing to endure. But I don't give people thumbs-down ratings for it. It's just something I've had to accept, viz. that most people can't spell worth crap.

I blame cell phones.
 
I agree with you... I'm studying Linguistics and I also find ridiculous mistakes upsetting. But I think all you can do is glare at people (literally or figuratively) and feel proud that you know better than them. That's what I do.
 
People are either in a rush or lazy these days, dear. All this texting and sexting has gotten confused with proper spelling and grammar. Unfortunately, I think it's the wave of the future and the dumbing down of society. Sad really.
 
I always try to check my spelling before I submit anything. If they didn't have spell check on here I wouldn't be on here.
