Offer your 2¢ on what you'd suggest!? Hi guys & gals! Leon, my red 1997 Isuzu Rodeo is an all stock, love of my life! The engine runs marvelously, and aside from some bumper rust he still looks like he was pulled out of the lot a few years ago!
So, after spending the last few months addicted to the forum at planetisuzoo.com I figured it was time to start asking around for peoples opinions on what I'd like done on my rodeo.
I'm 17, and have no knowledge of cars, but I learn quickly and I've read a lot of the things I hope to do on my rodeo can be done in your garage!
1) Lift Kit :: A lot of SUV owners (specifically a lot of Isuzu's) get Lift's done on the their vehicles. I'm interested in getting a lift because right now I feel like I ride much lower than I'd like. Obviously there must be a better reason for why so many people get lift kits, so I was wondering what benefit having the vehicle lifted anywhere from 2"-4" would offer? Also approximately what the cost would be if I went to my gas station mechanic and they order & install it (also how long it may take). I personally am considering maybe a 2" lift.
2) Paintjob :: It can easily be argued an 11yo car whose value is below 2grand should never get a paintjob, but in my case it is drastically needed. My dad purchased my Rodeo in 1998, and it was listed as "factory rebuilt." By the papers, the truck was never involved in any accident, yet Leon has two shades of red. On the passenger side of the vehicle, from the front door back, is a duller less shiny/glossy red paint. On the drivers side, the rear door and back is the same less glossy red. The front end of the car is a full toned shiny red, and the roof and back door are again the less glossy red. When the vehicle was purchased, this was not visible, but over time it has begun to show, and I worry poor Leon will eventually be considered as just any old Isuzu, TRASH!
So, I saw Maaco was offering their Ambassador Paint Service for $249, instead of the usual $500! What a deal! So I figure since the entire car will be painted, then it's a good deal! Only problem is, why is it so cheap? And whether or not I choose Maaco, I know I will be getting a paintjob in the near future, and I was wondering what body color looks best on 1st gen Rodeo's?
3) Wheels :: Lots of PlantIsuzoo users, after getting a lift kit, go off and get huge 35's! Though I think that may too big for me, if I get a 2 inch lift what rim & wheel size should I be looking into? Also, what sort of things should I consider when looking at wheels in general? Right now I just do simple rode driving, but I hope to one day hit a few steep mountainous/snowy roads around the Rockies! What sort of wheels are good for streets, and are capable of handling snowy/rocky trails up steep grades? Lastly, what is a great deal price for tires? What is the average or expected price? What would be considered too much for wheels?
4) Roof Rack :: Another item I want just for looks, but I truly feel a roof rack would add great storage capability and a nice look to my Rodeo. I'm interested in one that can hold 2 or 4 fog lights, and I'd like one positioned about the same place that picture 1 shows. Also, are there roof racks that can snap off their feet, so if I enter a low clearance garage I can always just snap the rack off and stick it in the trunk? What would be the low, medium, and high price for roof racks?
Really I'm hoping for comments and ideas from anybody, whether isuzu owner or not. I'll pick best answer by how much I learn, and how much gets answered from all that I asked. I know I will still have questions, but this should help me narrow down those questions to a few simple ones.
Thanks for reading, and I can't wait to read your responses!
