Is there any other term that can be used for tar baby that would refer to a sticky, inextricable situation? i'm looking for a single word, from folklore or literature or history, that avoids the racist connotation of tar baby.
Sticky wicket is good. You could use a sticky situation or use the word mired as in you are mired down in some problem. Stuck is another work you can use.
