The DIVX version on the PS3? can it be up dated?

I see the PS3 can Play DivX can it be updated? How do you up date the Div X if it can be?
 
The ps3 updates cover updating divx. It was recently updated in the ps3 firmware update to enable playing files larger than one gig.
I found out you can play .avi files by renaming them .divx, unfortunately divx files encoded in divx 3.11 will not play.
