When the timing belt does break on those it can cause major engine damage. When buying your next vehicle get one with built in clearance in the pistons so damage can not be done if it brakes. I would never take the risk of buying a car like that. I didn't even know they made cars like that anymore. I had a 1994 ford escort where the timing belt broke, but there was clearance and it did no damage. Buy the way, that's not an american car in my opinion. Its a korean car with an american name since that's where its made.

vehicle is totaled.? The timing belt that I replace about 9 months ago went. The mechanic states the engine has no compression. The vehicle (2005 Chevrolet Aveo LT.) just hit 80,000 miles. I just put 4 new tires, and alignment last week. I was driving 2 work and I attempted to accelerate and the car had trouble going from one gear to the next (auto trans) at approx. 65 mph then just shut down. Would not start. Mechanic stated the timing belt blew causing massive damage, and that the engine has no compression. He stated vehicle is totaled. what is your opinion, is the covered under 100,000 power train? I dont know if the aveo is under a 100,000 power-train...

Check your paperwork for the car. See if there is a warranty paper there. If not, call a GM dealer and ask. The head should be pulled to see if there are bent valves, or holes in pistons. This is the only way to tell if the engine has any life in it.

Unfortunately these Aveo's don't have a good track record for longevity..... Do a search on craigslist and see how many Aveos there are and how many of the ad's say "new" or "replaced" engine.....

Or stop by a large reputable used auto parts store and ask the counter guy how much call he gets for replacement engines for those Aveo's.... You will find they are lemons.....

Ask your local chevy dealer if they will warranty it..... Don't be surprised if they don't.....

American car companies have been getting there act together lately in the quality department but not with the Aveo.....

Put it on craigslist as a "parts car".....
