There's an Internet Explorer icon weirdly named...?

Hi. I'm looking through my Desktop via Windows Explorer, and I see two IE icons. One is an official IE link, the other is named "w". When I click properties, it takes me to the menu for internet options. One thing is, I remember a while back, when I got a minor virus/malware, there was an icon with a letter as a name that appeared out of nowhere. So this makes me think this "w" icon was installed without my knowledge... any info?
