Hello, I’m Sand. An apprentice in the Earth tribe. I’m training to become a warrior with my brother Dust, and our friend White. We are the troublemakers even more than Hazel’s new kits are. White, Dust, and I are currently in our third moon of training. My mentor is GoldenEarth, the Earth tribe’s oldest warrior. He is so smart, I feel like I have learned the most from him out of any other warrior. My mother Daisy is currently pregnant, but she won’t be having her kits for a couple of moons.
Sand walked out of her den, letting her golden brown fur warm in the sunshine of the early afternoon. She let a yowl as she stretched her aching muscles.
“Good afternoon, Sand.” DarkMoon, squealed as he stretched also nodding his head in a polite greeting.
“Its nice to see you DarkMoon. Where are the other warriors? I don’t see anybody around camp today.”
“The other warriors are out on patrol, well a few of them, the rest are training with their apprentices, where have you been all this time?” DarkMoon asked.
“I was resting a little and…”
“And you forgot to wake up, right, right.” DarkMoons eyes clouded with laughter. “I heard that one before, but anyways GoldenEarth is out on a patrol with your brother and AshEarth. So since your not training right now, how about collecting some moss for the elders? There bedding is getting so damp with all of this rain?”
“Why not? Haha.” Sand giggled sarcastically.
“Well, just make your self useful.” DarkMoon laughed, and walked away twitching the tip of his tail to show his goodbyes.
Sand walked out of the camp entrance, she sniffed the air to sense if any prey were scattering in the undergrowth close to her. She hated collecting moss for the elders, it seemed like it took forever.
The sun was going down, and Sand was done collecting moss, for the elders, so she decided to go get some fresh kill. She sniffed the air again, detecting a mouse scattering around. She found it a moment later eating a seed. She lowered her front legs, and raised her haunches, about to attack the mouse.
Suddenly a cat jumped on her back pinning her to the ground face first. She twisted her body back around to see who her attacker was, and noticed it was her brother Dust, who then suddenly stopped. The mouse heard her mew and scurried into a nearby hole.
“You almost killed me sneaking up on me and attacking me like that. Besides I was just about to get some prey until you ambushed me.”
“Settle, settle. I was trying a new attack AshEarth showed me.” He mewed, and then suddenly began cleaning his fur. “Besides my claws were sheathed.”
“It doesn’t matter, I was trying to get us some fresh kill, but you probably scared away all the prey in the forest.” Sand smirked.
Dust let our a slight sigh and spoke “You did, mewing your little head off like a kit.”
“Well maybe if I could have known you were there, I would be the one attacking you in the first place. Come on I’m not arguing; lets get back to camp.”
Dust nodded his head and gave his sister’s ear a quick lick.
“It was a joke.” He smiled and picked up his paws to carry him back to camp.
Dust stopped on the way there, and digged up his prey he had buried in the ground.
When they returned to camp, the stars in the sky started to show one by one, glittering in the clearing around them.
Sand noticed her mother dragging her small round belly out of the nursery.
“Hello Sand, Dust.” She nodded in a greeting in a painful tone. She passed them by and was walking over to LeafEarth’s Den, the healer of the tribe.
“Mom, what’s wrong?” Sand called.
“I’m not sure, I’m having severe stomach problems.” She managed to answer back.
Sand followed her mom, almost doubling her pace.
“I think I’m kitting already.” She spat.
“Oh no, its only been a moon hasn’t it?” Sand whaled.
“Something like that.” Her mother yowled in pain as she fell to the ground.
Sand picked her back up on her feet and let her mother lean against her for support. FernEarth noticed the two, and ran over to them to protect her other side.
“What’s wrong, are you kitting already?” FernEarth asked with sympathy in her light green eyes. The stars made her normally gray fur turn into a sparkling silver. She looked like a warrior from MoonTribe.
Daisy didn’t answer back, only tears filling up her round blue eyes.
FernEarth’s mother kitted early, and FernEarth was the only surviving kit, the two others died.
Sand answered back, “I hope not.”
FernEarth ran into the healer’s den, a moment later, LeafEarth came rushing out of her den with a mouth full of herbs. Most likely poppy seeds to help ease the pain.
When Daisy entered the healer’s den she flung her last bit of strength into a bed with a mixture of moss and leaves.
LeafEarth realized that she was starting to kit. Sand’s mind became doubtful that any of the kits would survive. HawkEarth flung his body through the den-opening look sacredly for his ma
