Consider the following situation: I go back in time to before I was born and give my father a compass. I tell him to give me that compass once I am born, lets say on October 15th, 2007. I know this date because it was the day my father gave me the same compass, telling me to go back in time and give it to him. This cycle continues with no paradoxes, as explained by the Novikov self-consistency principle. But eventually, after billions of iterations, the compass begins to wear and tear. Eventually, it will disintegrate completely. Does that not violate the self-consistency principle? Does that completely disprove time travel to the past?
