Made sure it was at TDC, all three gears have marks to be assured they are in correct location. I even put a mark that assured they were dead on. The belt has notches in it so it fits into the gears, after getting it all back together there was a little tap tap tap tap, so I took it all back apart and rechecked it, now if I change the belt over one way or the other to the next notch, the marks are about a half inch away from the original marks, so I know that it is in the correct location, but that tap tap tap is still there, but it seems fainter. Another thing the belt had quite a bit of slack in it when I took the old one off, so I assume with the notch's and all that it is best to have quite a bit of slack in the belt, not to tight..
My Ranger does not have a distributer, there are coils for each Cylinder, 2 per cytlinder, any other ideas for the taping. First time I set the tension all the way tight, then I made it loose, tapping either way.
