Hey, so my dog always jumps on people when they come to visit, and when me and my dad come home from somewhere.
I've tried to have my family members (and myself) ignore him till he sits, and then praise him when he sits.
It hasn't been working though!
My grandma might be coming to visit soon, and will be really bad if he jumps on her, cause she's old and fragile.
Are there any ways I can teach him not to jump on people MYSELF (without taking a dog obidience class)
Please don't say "dogs get excited."
Thanks! :-)

Ah, but have you (ALL of you) been consistent?

You have to ignore him EVERY time he jumps up. No eye contact, no talking, no touching. Not until every paw is on the ground. ALL the time. Remind everyone else to do it too.

If it still doesn't work, step away so he is forced to get down, but still ignore him until he is still.

I know this may sound agressive to some extent, but knee him in the chest when he jumps up. And if he thinks he can't get away with it with you and he can with other people, then invite one of your friends over and have them do it too. Cures the problem very quickly. :)

No, you really need to practice with people to teach your dog these things.

I won't tell you to take an obedience class, but I will say you'll have better success with your dog if you do.
