Torrent file download?

Okay here's the problem......my friend 4rm work got me started with using torrents.......AND I LUV EM!!!!!!!!!! anywayz...... i was wondering.........if i download a PS2 torrent & then burn it 2 a DVD-R will it work??? Meaning do i have 2 have a mod chip or something or can i just burn the file 2 a DVD-R using Nero & be good 2 go??? Someone please enlighten me on this please......thanx...........
