Totally clueless about PDA's! HELP! ?

I don't know anything about PDA's. I mean zero. But I do know that I love being organized and making to do lists. So I was thinking this would be a cool thing for me to get! Can you tell me the basics(or more) about what a PDA does exactly. How much are they usually? Which one is beset for a Mac? Anything on a "dummy" level would be helpful! Please nothing harsh! Thanks!

The current pda phone I have is about 3 years old and it's the AT&T model 8525. I got the phone because I was in school, missing deadlines and forgetting to do things because I would write something on a piece of paper and never looking at it.

The pda is a really great to keep someone organized, get reminders about events or tasks, etc. The cost factor is determined by how much you are willing to spend.
