"Becky" bought a lovebird from the local shop. After a few weeks decided she didn't want it because it's not tame. Gave it to "John."John got sick of it because it's not tame, and when he heard I was considering buying a lovebird, handed it to me.

I've owned an Amazon, Red Lory, and a cockiteal; however they were all trained when I received them. Therefore I have knowledge of birds, but not of how to train them.

Baby is adorable and has been in her/his new home for nearly a whole day. I left the cage door open and only a few hours in a new home he came hopping out. When frightened by a noise, flew to my knee. Some trust.

The only way to get it to cooperate/put back in cage/move is via catching him. I don't like doing that because I feel like each time I do it I lose more of his trust. He doesn't bite to draw blood, but does politely tell me when he's had enough of whatever "step up" means.

He is comfortable sitting on my shoulder, my knee, but doesn't like hands one BIT. Runs screaming and crying. When approached he flies away too (well, hopps. Wings are clipped).

Any step-by-step ideas would be greatly appreciated!
