My observation is that increasingly dentists collect patient payment on the day of service sometimes before the service starts. They no longer mail out patient invoice. I can certainly understand getting paid on the day they meet their patient is without question financially beneficial for them as that kind of policy eliminates all kind of chance for patient to bargain for discounts, delaying payments, and reduce chance for defaulting, but personally I find that to be rude.

I think the those dentists will tell me that if I don't like it, go someplace else which is fine because they will lose my business, and there are still some dentists who will not demand the money on the day of visit.

What is your view on this trend? It certainly is not against the law. However, I think it can affect patient to doctor relationship. It may be due the recession, and more and more people are defaulting, and asking for discount so dentists are feeling the pinch so that may be why they have devised the policy to collect the money on the day you go into their office.....
