trying to link 2 tvs to 1 sky box and......?

we are trying to link the tv upstairs to the sky box downstairs we have a splitter and the cable and have changed the settings on sky and tuned in the second tv and we still cant pick up the sky channells!!
What are we doing wrong?? any ideas what we can try next.
