Fiat told me i needed a new sump and rocker cover gasket on my seicento. I bought a sump and tried to remove the old one, without any luck, i only managed to get one corner down.

I gave up and put some sealant in the open bit and bolted it back up to take to a garage in a few days.

I decided to change the rocker gasket anyway. After doing that and putting the oil back in the car so i could drive it to the garage.

I started it and looked for leaks, seemed OK.

Then i get LOADS of white smoke out of the exhaust.

PLEASE help, i dont know what ive done or how to fix this.

It looks like theres some oil going into the throttle body, possibly via the breather?

The breather is pushing a lot of air out but doesnt seem to be pushing oil.

I started it with the breather off to see if oil was coming out and all it did was push air but the car smoked some more.

Is it possible that it would clear?

PLEASE help
Thanks for the replies. I THINK its because i started it too soon before the oil had drained down from the rocker. That pushed the oil into the "throttle body" and meant it pulled in oil as it tried to pull in air. It seems clearer now, still not totally clear but i guess oil will take a while to totally run through.

LESSON LEARNED!!!!

Unusual to get white 'smoke' this usually is a sign of condensation/water in the system. Did you run the engine without oil? Oil in the throttle body would give a bluish/black exhaust which you could smell as oil. Is it possible you overfilled the oil and possibly did some damage?

For a start, calm down! White smoke = water. What sealant did you use? You are in trouble if blue smoke. That oil or something worse!! Yes, you answered your own question, start her, let her run up to temp, about 20/25 mins on tick over. Foot to floor for about 10-15 secs, twicw. Then, keep her constant at about 2400/2600 revs for about 30 secs. Turn her off. Restart, then run her in gear 1-2 for about half a mile and see how she is then. If still smoking, water in the fuel.
