using a smoothbore shotgun for turkey hunting?

my dad is saying to use a smoothbore for deer and turkey, he says " all the big hunters told him that you didnt need chokes". how well would no choke work for turkey hunting? would you reccomend using one? i told him you should use one he says you dont,

Chokes are normally in conjunction with smoothbores. And most turkey hunters prefer a full choke or more for greater pattern density on turkey.
