verizon help please? alias 2?

MY friend recently have me his old alias 2, and it's prepaid. I currently just buy a $30 phone card for my blitz, i use a texting bundle. Today when i tried to switch over my number to the alias, verizon told me that the phone has a data plan, but still shows up as prepaid. and i would be spending almost eighty a month JUST to use it. Why is this? why can't i just get rid of the data plan and just buy the texting bundle once a month? Is there any way to get rid of the "data plan"? please help.
