Verizon rebate still valid if phone deactivated?

I recently bought a Verizon phone and was thinking about selling it online and going back to my old phone. Do I have to wait for the rebate to come back before I can sell the phone online? If the phone is deactivated will the rebate be invalidated ? Or can I just go ahead and mail in the rebate stuff and sell the phone online, and expect some money to come back to me ?

In order to get rebate, at the time rebate is processed, the service has to be active on the same plan and phone that qualified you for rebate,
